The name "Kiwi" is always in reference to the fruit. Those aromatic fruits, which we know from the supermarket, reach us to this season of the year from Australia, New Zealand, and Italy. The name of the plant itself is Actinidia delicosa. It grows very abundant in our climate as well and is a very pretty leaf ornamental plant. Unfortunately, it only sets blossoms when the temperature at the location does not sink under -12°C. These conditions are normally not given for the local gardens.
Exclusive available from Sämann - the Saxony-Kiwi
Frost resisting until -30°C, bears fruits after 2-3 years, abundant bearing fruits, vitamin-rich, climbing plant...
But there are also ideal kiwi varieties for our latitudes, which stand -30°C without problems. We from the tree nursery Sämann have produced the Saxony-Kiwi since 2003. This is the frost-resisting alternative to the known kiwi with larger fruits. The Saxony-Kiwi is frost resisting until -30°C. Cultivation is also possible in mountainous areas until 600 m height. There are male and female plants. The male plant (e.g. "Romeo") provides for up to 8 female plants ("Julia") with the help of bees. Those female plants can be plant in a distance up to 20 m. With the 2nd and 3rd stand year the plants bear fruits, whereby the maturity will be reached end of September / beginning of October. The fruits of the female plants get the size of a gooseberry. They are not hairy; the peel can be eaten. Furthermore, they have the most ingredients compared to other kiwi sorts (vitamin C, mineral materials) and an outstanding fruit-sweet aroma. Please contact our sales representative or ask directly in our garden market.
